Salary: Grade 8 c.£56k to £65K (pay review pending for 24/25, generous benefits, including defined benefit Strathclyde pension fund and 33 days annual leave in addition to 13 public holidays)

The Finance team is a crucial component of such success and provides an essential backbone for smooth operations and strategic decision making, with responsibility for £175M of income and expenditure annually.

 

The role

Glasgow Caledonian are seeking a Finance Business Partner to be part of their Finance Business Partner Team in ensuring financial sustainability and excellence in planning, management reporting, Infrastructure and investment case appraisals and enterprise risk management.

In this role, you will provide critical financial decision support to the University's Executive, Academic Schools and Professional Support Departments.

Your key responsibilities will include assisting in School and departmental planning, providing management accounting support to the senior management, producing monthly management accounts, and preparing annual budgets.

You will also play a critical role in shaping strategy and Executive decision making through the provision of value add analysis, investment case support, enhancements to financial management information and Executive board and committee papers.

Reporting to the Senior Finance Business Partner you will also play a key role in the leadership team of the 35 person strong Finance function and driving improvements in the provision of services to stakeholders, the systems and reporting processes and the working environment.

 

The person

The ideal candidate will possess a CCAB recognised accountancy qualification and be a member of an appropriate professional institute or association.

You should have substantial post-qualification experience with demonstrable expertise in management accounting, planning and influencing at a senior level.

The successful candidate will excel in developing and maintaining effective working relationships at all levels within the organisation, demonstrate strong analytical skills to understand the range of issues affecting the university's performance, and plan and prioritise workloads effectively.

We seek someone proactive in service development and committed to improving systems and processes, capable of strategic thinking to achieve organisational goals, and able to command respect and confidence from the Executive Board and stakeholders.

The role requires effective communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to convey complex information, synthesize data, and negotiate and influence colleagues. Excellent Excel skills and experience of analysing large datasets will also be required.

The ability to manage complex situations calmly and professionally, exercise initiative, show a high degree of responsibility, and delegate effectively is also crucial.
