Non-renumerated
Scotland | Predominantly remote with occasional in-person meetings across Central Scotland and occasionally London
Haemophilia Scotland is seeking to appoint new Trustees to join its Board and support the organisation at an important stage in its development.
Haemophilia Scotland is the national charity supporting people affected by bleeding disorders, including haemophilia and von Willebrand’s condition. The organisation provides vital information, advocacy and community support, working closely with the NHS, Scottish Government and partner organisations to improve outcomes and quality of life for its members.
With a growing membership and increasing influence, the organisation plays a key role as a voice for the bleeding disorders community in Scotland. Trustees are central to ensuring the charity remains well governed, sustainable and focused on delivering meaningful impact.
The Role
As a Trustee, you will contribute to the governance and strategic direction of the organisation, working collectively with fellow Trustees and the Director to ensure the charity delivers on its mission and operates effectively.
Trustees are responsible for ensuring the organisation acts in line with its charitable purposes, meets its legal obligations and continues to provide high-quality support to its members.
In addition to general Trustee responsibilities, we are particularly interested in individuals who can contribute to the Board in the following areas:
- Financial oversight, including taking on the role of Treasurer
- Human Resources, employment policy or organisational development
- Governance and leadership, with potential to take on a Vice Chair role
We are also keen to hear from individuals who bring insight or lived experience relevant to the communities we support, including:
- People with bleeding disorders or their family members
- Parents of children with a bleeding disorder
- Individuals with knowledge of von Willebrand’s condition
- Clinical or healthcare professionals working in this field
The Candidate
We are seeking individuals who are committed to the organisation’s purpose and can contribute effectively at Board level.
You may come from a range of professional or lived experience backgrounds and do not need previous Trustee experience, although this would be beneficial.
You will demonstrate:
- An interest in governance and the effective running of a charity
- The ability to think strategically and contribute to informed decision-making
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- A collaborative and constructive approach to working with others
- Sound judgement and a commitment to acting in the best interests of the organisation
Lived experience of a bleeding disorder, whether personal or through family or professional experience, is highly valued, and the organisation is committed to maintaining strong representation of lived experience within its Board. We are particularly keen to encourage applications from women with bleeding disorders as part of our commitment to building a diverse and balanced Board.
Time Commitment
The Board meets approximately four times per year, alongside the Annual General Meeting and additional meetings depending on Trustee roles and organisational priorities.
Most meetings are held remotely, with occasional in-person meetings.
Trustees are expected to commit sufficient time to prepare for and attend meetings and to contribute to the work of the Board.
The Opportunity
This is an opportunity to play a meaningful role in a respected national charity, supporting people affected by bleeding disorders across Scotland.
As a Trustee, you will contribute to shaping the organisation’s future direction, supporting its members and ensuring it continues to deliver impact during a period of ongoing development and opportunity.
