As a Trustee, you’ll play a vital role in providing the strategic direction and oversight, strategy, and impact. You’ll act as an ambassador for our work and help ensure we continue to support and the organisation to deliver upon key objectives.

The Board is responsible for:

  • Setting Lar’s strategic aims - aligned to its charitable objectives and regulatory framework - ensuring that the necessary financial and human resources are in place for Lar to meet its objectives (within revenue generated from the Charity’s activities), and overseeing management and Board performance
  • Setting the Charity’s values and standards and ensuring that its charitable aims and objectives, obligations to the regulator (OSCR), tenants, communities and other stakeholders are understood and met
  • Providing leadership of Lar within the framework of prudent and effective controls, which enable risk to be assessed and managed
  • Contributing to the consideration of key issues before the Board

Major policy decisions are made at the Board level, drawing on information provided by the CEO and the senior management team, who are responsible for day-to-day operations with delegated powers. Trustees ultimately play an important role, along with the Chair, in ensuring that this process works smoothly and effectively.

Time Commitment & Practicalities

Trustees will be required to attend 4 meetings of the board a year, with another 4-8 other meetings depending on membership of one of our sub-committees. We tend to meet at Lar’s offices in Dunfermline or at one of our properties in the central belt, although it is also possible to join meetings online.

Lar’s Trustees are volunteers, and these posts are unpaid, although all directly related travel as well as subsistence costs and reasonable dependents’ childcare and carer costs incurred in carrying out the duties of appointment will be reimbursed.

The appointment will be for a four-year term.
