Trustees
Social Investment Scotland
Non-renumerated
Scotland| Hybrid Board engagement
Social Investment Scotland (SIS) is a leading social enterprise and charity dedicated to building a fairer, more inclusive economy. Through the provision of social investment, tailored support and market leadership, SIS enables charities, social enterprises and community organisations to grow their impact and financial resilience across Scotland, and beyond.
SIS is currently at the mid-point of its ten-year strategy, “Building an Impact Economy”, and is delivering an ambitious action plan, “connecting capital with thriving communities”, which sets out a range of ambitious strategic priorities.
The Role
SIS is seeking to appoint up to four new Trustees to join its Board at a pivotal point in its strategic journey. These are voluntary, non-executive appointments, offering the opportunity to contribute to the leadership of a nationally significant organisation operating at the intersection of finance, impact and social change.
The Board is responsible for setting strategic direction, agreeing action plans and ensuring robust governance, financial oversight and risk management. Trustees work collaboratively with the CEO and Leadership Team to support delivery of SIS’s mission and long-term ambitions.
SIS operates a range of funds and programmes all of which fall under the remit of the main group board. Trustees are encouraged to contribute through Board Committees, including Audit & Finance, Risk, Investment, and Remuneration & Appointments, depending on experience and interest.
We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Charity or social enterprise leadership
- HR, People & Culture expertise
- Strategic risk management
Previous non-executive or trustee experience is welcomed but not essential. SIS is committed to providing induction, support and development for new Board members, including those taking on their first trustee role.
Time Commitment & Term
• The role is unremunerated, with reasonable expenses reimbursed.
• Trustees typically attend around four Board meetings per year, plus participation in at least one Committee.
- There is usually one further in person meeting per annum focussed on strategy, including board, committee and team members.
• Meetings are a split of either in person or online, with in person meetings held at investee locations rotating across Scotland.
• Appointments are typically for a three-year term, with the possibility of renewal (up to a maximum of six years).
The Opportunity
This is a meaningful opportunity to help shape the future of Scotland’s impact economy. Trustees will bring independent challenge, insight and enthusiasm, supporting SIS to remain ambitious, well-governed and influential at a national level.
SIS is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and are always keen to hear from individuals whose backgrounds or lived experiences are under-represented at Board level. What matters most is a shared commitment to SIS’s mission, a collaborative mindset and the ambition to help drive systemic change through social investment.
