Sight Scotland and Sight Scotland Veterans are two of Scotland’s oldest and most impactful charities, supporting people of all ages living with sight loss. For more than 230 years, the organisations have been dedicated to ensuring that individuals with visual impairment are empowered to live full, confident, and independent lives. Today, they provide vital care, education, specialist support for their service users and they campaign and research on behalf of more than 180,000 people across Scotland.
The charities are now seeking to appoint three new Trustees to join their Board at an exciting time of growth and change. This is a unique opportunity to play a central role in shaping the future direction of two organisations with a proud history and a bold vision: an inclusive Scotland where people of all visual abilities have the opportunity to thrive.
Trustees will bring a commitment to the mission and values of Sight Scotland and Sight Scotland Veterans, alongside the ability to contribute to strong governance and strategic oversight.
While applications are welcomed from all backgrounds, the Board is particularly keen to hear from individuals with experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Digital Transformation and Cyber Security
- Risk, Governance and Assurance
- Business Development and Fundraising
- Property, Construction and Estates Management
- Medical Research
- Direct Service Delivery and Operational Strategy
- Social Care and Education
- Human Resources, Remuneration and Appointments
Lived experience of sight loss, or an armed forces background (directly or through a family member), would also be especially welcome, but not essential.
The Board meets six times a year, usually on Wednesday afternoons in Edinburgh (with hybrid options available). Trustees are also expected to join at least one Committee, which meets up to five times per year.
If you’re passionate about driving better outcomes for people affected by sight loss and want to play a part in building a fairer, more inclusive Scotland, we’d love to hear from you.
You can contact Lauryn Pringle or Debbie Shields at Aspen People for a confidential discussion about the role on 0141 212 7555.
