The Opportunity

We are seeking a dynamic and visionary Group Leader in Virology (at Senior Research Fellow or Professor level) to join our exceptional team of researchers. You will lead an independent programme in virus research to improve understanding of how viruses interact with their hosts, contributing to The Roslin Institute’s mission to achieve sustainable agriculture, control diseases and enhance health.

The Virology division works, in collaboration with members across the institute, nationally and internationally, on viruses of global importance that impact the health of farmed animals and humans. We focus on one health research with the goal of advancing scientific knowledge and innovation, improving animal health and welfare, enhancing food security and addressing global challenges related to viral disease. Our interests broadly include host-virus interactions at scales from cells to target animals, viral evolution, epidemiology and transmission (including predicting zoonotic risk and virulence), , the basis of viral tropism and pathogenesis, and the genetic and immunological basis of host resistance to viruses. We are looking for candidates who can strengthen our research in these areas and complement current expertise with new technologies and approaches that can be applied to the strategic goals of the Institute.

As a BBSRC-sponsored Institute, our Principal Investigators receive core funding to appoint a technical specialist or postdoctoral researcher as well as an annual allowance for consumables and access to devolved funding to catalyse team science. Start-up funding is available by negotiation and we can assist with the cost and logistics of relocation (https://www.ed.ac.uk/human-resources/job/relocation).
