Interim Management Accountant (Fixed Term)

Glasgow Caledonian University is seeking an Interim Management Accountant to provide financial support on a fixed-term basis. The post holder will support the Finance Business Partner Team in delivering the University’s objectives in financial sustainability, planning, management reporting, and enterprise risk management. This role will provide financial decision support to the University’s academic Schools and Professional Support Departments.
The Role
Reporting to the Senior Finance Business Partner/Interim Head of Finance, the Interim Management Accountant will:
- Support the planning and preparation of the University’s annual budget through liaison with Schools and Support areas.
- Assist in the preparation of management reporting, including detailed forecasting and variance-to-budget reporting.
- Contribute to the compilation, enhancement, and communication of financial management information for the Executive, Standing Committees, and University Court.
- Support the development of improved research reporting and forecasting information.
- Provide Finance Business Partner support for discrete areas of the University, under the guidance of a Finance Business Partner.
- Assist in managing the University’s Risk Management and Insurance processes.
- Undertake other tasks appropriate to the post in line with the School, Department, or Finance Business Partner Team’s business needs.
The Person
The successful candidate will:
- Hold a CCAB recognised accountancy qualification, or have relevant experience demonstrating equivalent competence.
- Have excellent Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and the manipulation of large datasets.
- Demonstrate sound analytical skills and the ability to understand the financial and non-financial performance of the University.
- Be able to manage their own workload, prioritise tasks, and work to deadlines.
- Show a proactive approach to service development and a commitment to improving systems and processes.
- Have effective communication skills, with the ability to analyse, interpret, summarise, and convey complex financial information.
- Be able to develop and maintain effective working relationships at all levels within the University.
- Exercise initiative and demonstrate a high degree of responsibility.
