About the role

This is a strategic and influential leadership role where you will shape the future of the College’s people strategy by leading our Human Resources and Payroll functions. Reporting to the Assistant Principal – People Services, you will play a key role in fostering a positive, inclusive, and high-performing culture that supports the College’s strategic objectives and long-term success.

As Head of HR, you will lead and develop a dedicated team of HR professionals and oversee payroll operations, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and service excellence. You will drive forward initiatives in recruitment, employee relations, organisational design, performance management, and workforce planning, while championing innovation, continuous improvement, and employee engagement.

 

About you

We are seeking a transformational and experienced HR leader with a strong track record of delivering results in complex or unionised environments. You will hold a degree-level qualification and be a Chartered Member of the CIPD (MCIPD or FCIPD), with a deep understanding of employment law, HR best practices, and the regulatory landscape in Scotland and the wider UK.

You will bring proven experience in leading HR teams, managing change, and supporting senior leadership with strategic workforce planning. Your background will include handling complex employee relations matters, overseeing job evaluation and pay structures, and driving initiatives that enhance organisational culture and performance.

You will be a confident communicator and trusted advisor, capable of building strong relationships across the College and with external stakeholders. Your ability to lead with empathy, influence at all levels, and deliver people-focused solutions will be key to your success in this role.
