We are delighted to be working in partnership with St Columba’s Hospice Care to appoint a new Head of Digital Services – a strategic leadership role that will shape the future of digital delivery and innovation at one of Scotland’s most respected independent charities.

St Columba’s Hospice Care has been delivering exceptional palliative and end-of-life care across Edinburgh and the Lothians for nearly 50 years. With a strong reputation for person-centred care, the Hospice supports individuals and families at home, in their Inpatient Unit, in community settings, and virtually.

As the organisation looks to the future, digital innovation will play a critical role in how services are accessed, delivered, and experienced. The newly defined Head of Digital Services position offers the opportunity to lead this transformation—modernising systems, strengthening infrastructure, and unlocking new opportunities for impact.

The Role

Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Head of Digital Services will lead the Hospice’s overall digital and IT strategy. Working as part of the senior leadership team, the role will be responsible for:

  • Driving the development and delivery of digital programmes and technology transformation
  • Leading a high-performing IT team to ensure responsive, secure, and user-centred systems
  • Managing operational delivery, cyber risk, business continuity and governance
  • Exploring emerging technologies, including the use of AI, to improve efficiency and access
  • Supporting cross-organisational change and digital innovation aligned to Hospice values

The postholder will work across departments to deliver system improvements and service redesign that benefit staff, volunteers, patients, and families—ensuring digital capability is a core enabler of the Hospice’s strategic ambitions.

The Person

We are looking for a credible digital leader who brings:

  • Extensive experience in senior IT and digital strategy roles, ideally with further years in strategic leadership
  • Strong people and programme management skills, with a record of delivering digital change at scale
  • A sound understanding of risk management, cyber security and IT governance
  • Confidence in managing budgets and reporting at board level
  • A collaborative, solutions-focused approach with a commitment to person-centred service delivery

Candidates may come from a range of sectors, including healthcare, third sector, education or commercial environments. What matters most is your ability to lead with integrity, innovate with purpose, and align digital transformation with organisational values.

Why Join St Columba’s Hospice Care?

This is a rare opportunity to join a well-respected and values-driven organisation at a time of strategic investment and change. With a newly embedded shared leadership model, a supportive team culture and a clear commitment to innovation, the Hospice is ready to take its next steps into the digital future.

Due to the nature of this post, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a Standard level criminal records check through Disclosure Scotland.

You can contact Lauryn Pringle, Harry Thomson or Debbie Shields at Aspen People for a confidential discussion about the role on 0141 212 7555.
