Institute of Chartered Foresters

Executive Director

£62,000 - £72,000

Edinburgh or Bristol

The Institute of Chartered Foresters (ICF), the Royal Chartered body for tree professionals in the UK, are looking for a new Executive Director.

The ICF promote best practice and collaboration across the sector whilst providing crucial learning platforms for professionals and access to the latest research and sector news. They work with the four devolved governments across the UK to tackle climate change and contribute to the achievement of Net Zero 2050.

The ICF has over 2,000 members from a range of roles within the sector and works with industry and educational institutes to promote career paths to young people. They support the development of tree professionals, driving the improvement of standard practice and promotes the professional status of foresters and arboriculturists.

They now seek a new Executive Director to join the organisation after its current longstanding leader steps down. The new leader will champion the profession, embrace ICF values and align with the mission of tackling climate change and protecting the natural environment. The Executive Director will drive the growth of the ICF’s diverse membership and ensure its membership offering is constantly improving, identifying ways to innovate and create opportunity to reach more individuals and become even more valuable to existing members.

As the strategic leader of the organisation, the Executive Director will work closely with the President, Council, sub-committees and lead the staff to deliver the new five-year strategy for growth whilst ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, statutory guidance and the terms of the charter. The new Executive Director will act as an ambassador for the ICF and the profession.

We are looking for a passionate, strategic leader who has demonstrable experience and understanding of managing a business or charity with a track record in engaging with stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be comfortable in public speaking, driving membership growth, have excellent people skills, with the ability to communicate and connect with stakeholders and members. An understanding of forestry, arboriculture or land management would be beneficial, but not essential.
