Director of the Centre for Reproductive Health
c.£100,000
Edinburgh

At the University of Edinburgh, we’ve had an extraordinary influence on the world for more than 400 years. As an organisation underpinned by equality, diversity and inclusion we’ve been influenced ourselves, by lots of other ‘worlds’, different people, places, beliefs and ideas. It makes us who we are.

The Centre for Reproductive Health has an exciting future ahead. As we move into our new location based in the Institute for Regeneration and Repair (IRR) this summer we will embrace a new chapter in our Centres development. Our strategic themes ensure that the CRH remains the place to research and study reproductive health now and in the future. Our Centre’s research portfolio harnesses the exceptional skills of our outstanding research community. Furthermore, as we celebrate the University’s success in recent REF (UoE Clinical Medicine ranked fourth in the UK and first in Scotland), we look forward to the opportunity to embrace our wider research environment and co-create new collaboration opportunities on the Bioquarter site (IRR; Usher Institute; future QMRI/Chancellors visions for a focus on “brain and body”) and across the University campuses.

The Director of the CRH will play a key role in ensuring that the Centre achieves its mission “through interdisciplinary research and research training”.  The post will involve a balance of research, administration, clinical (if appropriate) and other academic duties. Main responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Plan and lead the development, implementation and publication/dissemination of research of outstanding quality and international repute within the breadth of work undertaken within the CRH
  • Make a leading contribution to the development and implementation of research strategy at Centre level
  • Lead major funding bids which develop and sustain research support for reproductive research and advance the reputation of the University
  • Make a leading personal contribution to research in the field nationally and internationally by means of publication etc
  • Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching at the University

The postholder will be a basic or clinical (biomedical) scientist with a proven record of academic excellence and experience of managing research activity relevant to the research objectives of the Centre for Reproductive Health. You will have a proven track record in training and mentorship of junior staff with the ability to lead and motivate colleagues, contributing to the effective performance of the Centre.  Knowledge and experience of extensive and high-level research or teaching experience is required as is experience of leading the design of programmes and projects.
