Director of Policy, Analysis and Standards
Salary: £87,584 - £96,102
Location: Glasgow or Dalkeith / Hybrid Working

Trusted – Enabling – Progressive

The Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) is the national qualifications, accreditation and awarding body in Scotland.  As an Executive NDPB, we are accountable to Scottish Ministers. We help people across Scotland and beyond realise their potential and achieve their ambitions by providing a wide range of high quality, internationally recognised qualifications and associated services.  SQA supports schools, colleges, universities and training organisations to develop and deliver their qualifications and assessments.

SQA is looking to appoint a new Director of Policy, Analysis and Standards to lead a new directorate within SQA which will provide strengthened thought leadership and horizon scanning across the organisation, a critical part of our contribution to the national education system.

The successful post holder will have the right blend of skills and experience necessary to lead and develop a team of dedicated professionals. The right candidate will also expand and build upon our existing research approach and inform the strategic direction of the organisation.

This is a fantastic strategic career opportunity for the right candidate to make a large scale organisational impact on our future delivery and change agenda – and help further modernise and evolve other key areas of the business.

We are looking for a highly experienced and qualified individual, with a proven track record of leading and shaping a modern research function in a strategic and innovative way. You will bring a fresh, forward-thinking and collaborative approach to ensure the function is central to the strategic thinking and continued improvement of the business overall.

A significant part of this role will be externally facing, with a requirement to increase our external engagement with stakeholders, so it is important that the successful candidate has the experience necessary to help shape the agenda for the future of qualifications and assessment in Scotland.

A strong, strategic leader who can embrace the SQA’s values of being trusted, progressive and enabling.

SQA has two offices which are based in either Glasgow City Centre or Dalkeith, near Edinburgh.  However, SQA offers hybrid working, known as Smarter Working.  With Smarter Working at SQA we aim, where possible, to give our people some individual choice and control over where they work.  This means, dependant on the needs of the business, that each employee can have a positive work/life balance whilst also optimising the use of workplaces and technology.
