Barrhead Housing is seeking an exceptional leader to take forward the role of Director of Customer Services at a significant point in the organisation’s development. A great opportunity to build on strong foundations and help shape the next stage of Barrhead Housing's ambitions, the organisation is seeking interest from values-based and people-centric customer service leaders.
As the community-based housing association for East Renfrewshire, Barrhead Housing exists to make a meaningful difference in local people’s lives. Barrhead Housing provides safe, aspirational and affordable homes while investing in opportunities that support healthier, more fulfilled communities. Its performance is consistently top quartile, and its work has been recognised through multiple awards, reflecting both strong operational delivery and a clear sense of purpose.
The Director of Customer Services will join the Executive Team with responsibility for the services that most directly influence customers’ day to day experience. The role brings strategic and operational leadership across Housing Services, Community Investment and the Customer Hub. The successful candidate will ensure that these areas operate as an integrated whole, delivering high quality, accessible and responsive services shaped around customer insight and need.
A central priority for the role is to advance a modern, insight led approach to customer experience. The postholder will use data, feedback and meaningful engagement to inform service design, strengthen performance and support continuous improvement. Alongside this, the Director will lead innovation and digital development in ways that enhance accessibility while preserving the personal, community focused ethos that defines Barrhead Housing. The role also includes deputising for the Chief Executive and contributing fully to corporate leadership and strategic direction.
Barrhead Housing combines strong performance with ambitious plans for the future. Its community investment work continues to generate significant social value through effective partnerships and targeted programmes. Barrhead Housing’s active development programme includes projects that test new approaches to energy efficiency and inclusive design. The recent creation of the subsidiary, Vesta. further demonstrates a willingness to innovate in order to meet local housing need while supporting long term financial sustainability.
The organisation is recognised for its positive and progressive culture. Trust, collaboration and inclusion underpin everyday working practices, supported by flexible and agile approaches that promote wellbeing and effectiveness. Barrhead Housing was the first organisation to achieve FlexMark accreditation for flexible working and holds Investors in People Gold, with progress being made towards Platinum. High levels of employee engagement and low staff turnover reflect the strength of this environment.
Applications are invited from strategically minded and collaborative leaders with substantial experience of improving customer focused services, ideally within housing or a related public service context. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong people leadership, credibility in managing change and the ability to work confidently with customers, colleagues, partners and governing bodies. A clear alignment with Barrhead Housing’s RADAR values and a strong commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion will be essential.
