The College Head of Facilities role has responsibility and accountability for the strategic oversight and leadership of effective and efficient research and other facilities for the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences (the College). This includes commercial business development, external engagement, project management as well as developing and delivery of related strategies and policies.
The role will provide significant visionary leadership, in this area of strategic importance to the College, through shaping and developing College ambition, policy, process, practice and making a specialist contribution to the development of College facilities strategy in collaboration with the Director of Professional Services, College Deans for Research and Research Technology and the Facilities Oversight Board.
Responsibilities also involve leading the multi-user facilities, shaping service structures and managing staff and resources to ensure efficient organisation, operation and sustainable development. The post-holder will have a key role to play in encouraging widespread, equitable and appropriate use and ensuring that the facilities become and remain cost-effective, both in terms of directly managed services and also through creating partnerships and matrix management arrangements for relevant capabilities across the College and University, and externally where appropriate.
The successful candidate will be professionally qualified in a relevant discipline with a broad range of professional leadership experience in strategically important specialist areas. You will have an extensive knowledge and exposure to a broad range of functional areas including service operations, finance and IT as well as cross-functional collaboration to deliver professional support services and experience of strategic leadership and management of complex business challenges. Experience of service operations management and influencing senior stakeholders and strategic decision making is essential for the role as is engaging staff with excellent people management skills.
