About Us

SRUC is a Scotland-wide tertiary institution dedicated to advancing the natural economy through world-leading education, research, innovation, and commercial enterprise. With a strong regional presence and deep roots in rural and remote communities, we deliver impact across Scotland and globally. Our work spans further and higher education, cutting-edge research ranked top in the UK for Agriculture, Food and Veterinary Sciences, and extensive knowledge-exchange activity. As we evolve into a new kind of university college for the 21st century, we remain committed to integration across research, teaching, and consultancy to meet the needs of people, businesses, and the environment.

About the Role

The Chair of the SRUC Board provides strategic leadership, ensuring the Board operates with integrity, transparency, and effectiveness in line with governance standards. Working closely with the Principal and Chief Executive, the Chair guides high-level decision-making, supports strong relationships with government and sector bodies, and ensures that Board sub-committees function effectively. The role involves representing SRUC externally, safeguarding good governance during periods of change, and helping steer the organisation through its next phase of development as a unique, research-led tertiary institution.

About You

You will bring authoritative leadership experience, sound judgement, and the credibility to influence at senior levels across complex organisations. With a commitment to SRUC’s mission and values, you will demonstrate the ability to challenge constructively, communicate persuasively, and foster collaboration. You will uphold the highest standards of public life and champion equality, inclusion, and diversity. Above all, you will be motivated to shape the future of SRUC and support its work in delivering lasting benefit to rural communities, the natural economy, and society.
