Social Enterprise Scotland
Chair
Edinburgh
A stipend is available to support accessibility and inclusion and to attract applications from a diverse range of candidates

This is an exciting time for Social Enterprise Scotland as we deliver the Single Enhanced Intermediary for social enterprises in Scotland. According to the last Social Enterprise in Scotland Census, there are more than 6,000 social enterprises, creating almost 90,000 full-time equivalent jobs and – despite the disruption caused by the pandemic – they continue to grow in size and number. Social Enterprise Scotland recognises the responsibility to grow a strong, inclusive voice for all social enterprises throughout the length and breadth of the country.

Our work is supported by a dynamic and diverse board, who bring their knowledge, experience and strategic vision from a variety of sectors, united by their passion to support Scottish social enterprises to thrive. We are now looking for a new Chair to join us at this critical time for the organisation.

The Chair will strengthen, grow and develop the Board to embrace the opportunities we have and in doing this provide leadership to the Board and ensure the Directors fulfil their duties and responsibilities for the proper governance and organisation, alongside supporting the CEO in his work.

We are looking for someone who has a firm understanding of social enterprise and awareness of social enterprise networks, who embraces and understands the wider impact driven business ecosystem.

The successful candidate will have strong commercial acumen and the ability to interact with private, public and third sector stakeholders.  They will have a strong understanding of good governance and be able to demonstrate their ability to chair a strategic body effectively, whilst developing and strengthening the Board to embrace the opportunities of the new Single Enhanced Intermediary.

In addition experience of a leadership role and developing a social enterprise would be desirable.

The commitment for this role is 3 to 4 days per month and the initial term of appointment is 4 years.

For a confidential discussion please contact Debbie Shields or Kate Kennedy on 0141 212 7555.
