Humanist Society Scotland is a relatively small national charity with a significant public profile. It combines the functions of a membership body, campaigning organisation and provider of humanist ceremonies.
The Chief Executive is responsible for the strategic, operational and financial leadership of the organisation, leading the team as Scotland's national humanist charity, its largest provider of humanist ceremonies. Reporting to the Board, the CEO will drive organisational growth by expanding the celebrant network and ceremony services, diversifying income, strengthening governance, leading organisational change and embedding a high-performing, values-led culture. The role also acts as the organisation's principal public representative, building relationships with government, partners, members, celebrants and the media while increasing HSS's civic influence, public profile and long-term sustainability. The role requires an influential leader who can drive organisational growth, lead campaigning on human rights and equality issues, strengthen income generation and partnerships, and act as the leading public voice for humanism in Scotland.
The ideal candidate will bring significant senior leadership experience within the third sector, membership organisations or a similar environment, with a proven ability to lead organisational change, drive income growth and diversification, and manage organisational finances. You will be an outstanding communicator with experience of public affairs, media engagement and stakeholder influencing, alongside a demonstrable commitment to humanist values.
