Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will provide strategic leadership, ensure organisational sustainability, and champion Move On’s mission to support people to achieve personal goals and make positive, lasting change in their lives.

About Move On

Established in 1997, Move On operates across Scotland’s Central Belt, with bases in Edinburgh and Glasgow. The organisation’s vision is of a Scotland where every person can confidently navigate life’s challenges and achieve their potential. Move On delivers a wide range of services including literacy tutoring, mentoring, volunteering, employability support, training, and social enterprise activity.

Move On works in a trauma-responsive, person-centred way, offering support when people need it, where they need it, and for as long as they need it. With a staff team of around 35 and a volunteer base of approximately 180, Move On delivers significant social and environmental impact across communities.

The Role

This is a pivotal leadership role requiring a dynamic and values-led CEO who can balance strategic oversight with hands-on leadership. The CEO will be accountable for organisational performance, financial health, and the successful delivery of Move On’s vision, mission, and strategic ambitions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the development and delivery of Move On’s strategic plan, ensuring alignment with organisational values and purpose.
  • Providing strong financial leadership, including oversight of budgeting, financial controls, and long-term sustainability.
  • Leading, motivating, and developing staff and volunteers across multiple teams, locations, and activities.
  • Supporting effective governance and working closely with the Board to enable informed decision-making and strategic oversight.
  • Ensuring compliance with charity law, safeguarding, health and safety, and best-practice standards.
  • Acting as a visible ambassador for Move On, building strong relationships with funders, partners, corporate supporters, and stakeholders.
  • Identifying and delivering opportunities for growth, diversification, and service improvement.
  • Leading delivery of ambitious income generation and growth plans, including the development of the Glasgow Coronation Food Hub and wider employability and social enterprise activity.
  • Fostering a positive, inclusive organisational culture where people are supported to thrive and achieve their potential.

The Candidate

The successful candidate is likely to demonstrate:

  • Proven senior leadership experience within the third sector or a values-driven organisation.
  • Strong financial acumen, with experience managing complex budgets and diverse income streams.
  • A strategic mindset, with a track record of delivering organisational growth and measurable impact.
  • Experience leading people across diverse teams and operational environments.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build effective partnerships.
  • Experience delivering ambitious income generation targets and developing strategic partnerships.
  • A clear commitment to Move On’s values and to supporting people facing barriers to opportunity.

Experience of social enterprise development, employability pathways, volunteering, or supporting people affected by issues such as homelessness, addiction, or disadvantage would be advantageous.

The Opportunity

This is a compelling opportunity to lead a respected and impactful Scottish charity at an exciting point in its development. The CEO will play a central role in shaping innovative services, expanding social enterprise activity, and maximising the impact of significant recent investment, including Scotland’s first Coronation Food Hub.

With an annual turnover of approximately £1.7m, Move On delivers large-scale impact, including millions of meals redistributed each year, strong employability outcomes, and extensive volunteer engagement. The CEO will help build on this success, ensuring Move On continues to make a meaningful difference to individuals and communities across Scotland.

Move On is an inclusive organisation and welcomes applications from candidates from all backgrounds who share its values and ambition.
