includem is a leading Scottish charity dedicated to supporting children, young people and families experiencing significant challenges. The organisation believes every young person deserves to be respected, valued and able to participate fully in society.
Through intensive, relationship-based, individually tailored support, includem works alongside young people and families to help them build resilience, improve wellbeing and create brighter futures. Support is available 24/7 and delivered through a flexible and trauma-informed approach, in partnership with local authorities, schools, justice services and community organisations.
The Role
This is an exciting time in history as includem looks to appoint their next Chief Executive. The CEO will provide strategic leadership and direction to includem, ensuring the organisation continues to deliver life-changing support and influence policy and practice nationally. Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the CEO will be responsible for shaping long-term strategy, strengthening organisational capability and culture, and safeguarding the charity’s values and mission.
The CEO will:
- Lead the development and delivery of strategic plans aligned to includem’s mission and values.
- Ensure responsive, high-quality service delivery that meets the evolving needs of children, young people and families across Scotland.
- Uphold excellence in governance, safeguarding and regulatory compliance, working closely with the Board to maintain strong oversight and accountability.
- Champion includem’s voice and impact across Scotland, influencing policy, representing the charity in key forums and strengthening partnerships across public, third-sector and community stakeholders.
- Drive sustainable income growth and financial resilience through strategic funding partnerships, statutory contracts, philanthropy and innovative income streams.
- Foster an inclusive, supportive and values-driven culture, empowering teams to deliver impactful, evidence-based support.
The successful candidate should demonstrate:
- A proven track record of senior leadership within a mission-driven or multi-stakeholder environment.
- Strong understanding of governance, compliance, safeguarding and the responsibilities of a charity chief executive.
- Experience of influencing policy, shaping sector-wide conversations and building high-level strategic partnerships.
- A history of leading income generation, funding relationships and financial planning.
- Excellent communication and advocacy skills with the ability to build confidence and credibility across diverse audiences.
- A values-led leadership style — collaborative, resilient, compassionate and committed to empowerment and inclusion.
- A deep commitment to improving outcomes for children, young people and families, and to tackling inequality and social injustice.
