About Us

Glasgow Clyde College’s Finance Team is passionate about education and committed to financial excellence. We take pride in supporting the College’s mission through sound financial management and strategic insight. Our team plays a vital role in ensuring the effective allocation of resources, providing accurate financial reporting, and supporting both internal and external stakeholders.

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our Finance Team on a permanent, full-time basis (35 hours per week). Based at Cardonald Campus and some working from Langside and Anniesland Campuses as required.

In this role, you will play an integral part in supporting the finance function and contributing to the College’s overall financial success. Key responsibilities include assisting in the preparation of timely financial statements and management accounts, analysing variances, and providing insightful commentary. You will also support the preparation and review of annual budgets, quarterly reforecasts, and long-term financial plans.

Other duties include monitoring and forecasting operational cash flow, assisting with cash management and treasury activities, and supporting the completion of both external and internal audits within pre-agreed timescales. Acting as a business partner, you will work closely with budget holders to manage budgets effectively and contribute to the continuous improvement of finance procedures, processes, and internal controls. Additionally, you will develop detailed knowledge of the College’s financial system and act as a system champion.

About You

You will hold a recognised CCAB accounting qualification (part or fully qualified), supported by evidence of continued professional development (CPD). Experience in the further education (FE) sector is desirable but not essential. You will bring extensive experience in data reconciliation and analysis, as well as the preparation of management accounts, budgets, forecasts, and operational cash flows.

Strong IT skills, including advanced Excel and experience with computerised accounting systems, are essential. You will be a confident and clear communicator, capable of building strong relationships across the organisation and providing sound financial advice to non-finance stakeholders.

What We Offer

We offer an attractive employment package, including a competitive salary, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme with employer contributions, 49 days of annual leave, and ongoing Continued Professional Development (CPD) opportunities. Staff also benefit from a suite of additional perks designed to support wellbeing and work–life balance.

If you are an ambitious accounting professional eager to make an impact and contribute to the success of Glasgow Clyde College, we would love to hear from you.

You can contact Harry Thomson or Debbie Shields at Aspen People for a confidential discussion about the role on 0141 212 7555.
