Nursing and Midwifery Council Member - Scotland, Registrant
Please note that this role is only open to candidates who hold current registration with the NMC and who live or work, wholly or mainly, in Scotland.

We are seeking a new Scotland Council member with midwifery expertise.

We want to see safe, effective, and kind nursing and midwifery that improves everyone’s health and wellbeing. As the professional regulator of almost 745,000 nurses and midwives in the UK and nursing associates in England, we have an important role to play in making this vision a reality.

Our Council wants to reflect the diversity of the professions we regulate, and the people they care for and is committed to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion in all we do. We welcome applications from everyone who shares that commitment.

You will be joining the Council at a time when the work you and your colleagues do has never been more important to all of us or the circumstances more challenging. Our job is to continue to enable nursing and midwifery professionals to deliver safe and effective care, in the way we Regulate, Support, and Influence and in line with our values to be fair, kind, ambitious and collaborative.

This is also an exciting time as we look at how our regulatory role can help improve midwifery and maternity services and make a difference to the health and wellbeing of mothers, babies and families across the UK.

We are also working with the four governments to improve our legislation so we can regulate better, to meet changing needs now and in future; continuing to implement our Future Midwife and Future Nurse education standards; and dealing with fitness-to-practise cases as quickly as we can, while making processes fairer and kinder for all involved.

You will be joining an ambitious, forward-thinking Council, who work collaboratively with our Executive team, to make a difference to the health and care of all our communities.

You will need to be able to devote at least 3 days a month to the Council; in return you will receive an annual allowance (currently £14,724 a year) and reasonable expenses.
