Finance and Business Services Director
Salary: £80,000 - £90,000
Location: Glasgow or Flexible

Scottish Canals are fundamental in delivering inclusive growth and economic success across the breadth of the canals in Scotland. Having recently become a Non-Departmental Public Body, they conserve canals as part of our heritage and transform them to play a vital role in Scotland today.

Scotland’s canals have a proud and rich history, having contributed to the country’s economy for over 200 years. Whilst the goods and people they once transported powered the industrial revolution, today the canals drive transformational change, through investment in regeneration and tourism, helping to tackle global issues such as health inequality and climate change. Having enjoyed a renaissance over the last few years, we are now adopting and using these working heritage assets for 21st century purposes; reimagining the ways we value, protect and enjoy our canal corridors.

Scottish Canals is now looking to appoint a Finance and Business Services Director, to join their Executive Team and to deliver upon their priorities while managing a period of change over the next few years. You will be involved in all corporate decision-making, holding budgetary responsibility for circa £9.5 million, with circa 28 staff.

As Finance and Business Services Director, you will ensure excellent financial management of significant Capital, Financial Transactions and Resource budgets in the Directorate, and lead work on innovative financial approaches to ensure improved value for money.

As a senior advisor to the Accountable Officer, you will oversee and advise on all aspects of Finance, Procurement, ICT and Estates. You will contribute to the collective leadership of the Scottish Canals portfolio, having positive influence with stakeholders internally and externally.

The successful individual will be a proactive and collaborative leader. You should be commercially astute and solutions driven, with significant experience of public sector accounting, preferably Scottish Government Public Finance Manual. You must possess a recognised accountancy qualification with proven experience of delivering change programmes and leading high performing teams.

The role can be based in their offices in Glasgow or flexibly anywhere in Scotland, with travel required.

For a confidential discussion, please contact Debbie Shields or Emma McEneaney at our recruitment Partners, Aspen People on 0141 212 7555.
