NHS Education for Scotland
Director of Social Care
£83,463 - £109,127
Flexible Location

NHS Education for Scotland (NES) is the national health board with statutory responsibilities to effect sustainable change through workforce development, education and training across the health and social care system in Scotland, while working at UK level with partner organisations.

We are the leader in educational design, delivery and quality assurance and provide wide-ranging support to workforce development. We are the official provider of workforce statistics for NHS Scotland and support national workforce planning. We design and develop digital technologies supporting innovation and transformation.

Our purpose is to drive change and improve the quality of care experienced by citizens across Scotland by ensuring that we have the right staff, with the right skills, in the right place, at the right time. NES is integral to improving outcomes for people and in ensuring a skilled and capable workforce underpins the design and delivery of services.  As an organisation, we recognise the significant contribution we can make to improving population health, reducing inequalities and economic development.

As a national level organisation NES has an established work programme which already supports the social care workforce in Scotland, ensuring that those who work in health and social care are skilled, capable, digitally enabled and motivated to deliver improved outcomes for citizens.  To-date the existing social care work programme in NES has been established, developed and delivered as an adjunct function within the Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professions Directorates (NMAHP).  The established and highly successful social care work programme is now developed to such an extent that it is necessary for the various resources and activities to be aggregated as part of a dedicated corporate function within NES.  This will ensure the necessary leadership and direction can be provided by a new director, with the appropriate skills, experience and qualifications, to ensure that the development of the directorate such that it is fully focused on the delivery of the established work programme.

SSSC registered or equivalent, you will have a high level of knowledge and experience of the social care or social work sector.  You will be a strategic thinker with the ability to influence, negotiate, and have the credibility and stature to lead a national agenda and a strategically significant Directorate that impacts front line service delivery.

Extensive leadership experience in social work, integrated health and social care will be essential for this role as well as an in-depth understanding of the context for integrated health and social care, working with the sector to develop education, training and workforce development.
