UHI Shetland
Director of the Centre for Sustainable Seafood
Competitive Salary
Shetland

As the most northerly partner of the University of the Highlands and Islands, UHI Shetland provides a single point of contact for tertiary education, commercial training and research in Shetland.  We are at the heart of economic development for the islands and work closely with industries as diverse as textiles and aquaculture, in various ways from skills development to research.

Through our people, our education, and our research, we look towards a new era of sustainable development, underpinned by the management and delivery of excellence in research by the founding of the Centre for Sustainable Seafood.

The vision is that a Centre for Sustainable Seafood will provide an independent focus of expertise to support the seafood industry in Scotland, the UK and internationally. The Centre for Sustainable Seafood will be driven by the needs of industry first and foremost, providing the research and skills needed to address global challenges and keep the seafood sector at the cutting edge of sustainable food production.  Through this process of partnership working, we believe there is an opportunity to create a unique centre that provides credible, robust, and targeted science, education, and training to meet the needs of a sustainable seafood sector.

The Director will lead the strategic development of the Centre in collaboration with key stakeholders.  The role will have responsibility to facilitate impactful research, knowledge exchange, post-graduate learning, enterprise and curriculum development of the highest quality in the UHI.

It is expected that the CSS Director will be based in Shetland and have a significant role in profiling and promoting Shetland UHI and its UHI Island Academic Partners and will work closely with stakeholder groups in the sea food economy throughout the Highlands and Islands. The individual must be an excellent communicator with internal and external stakeholders as well as the ability to motivate and inspire.

As Director of the CSS you will have experience of successful and innovative research within a relevant subject area as well as experience of effective income generation and project management.  An established leader in an academic or industry context, you will have experience of building and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders and partners.  Knowledge of the seafood sector and the specific context of sustainability will be essential for this role.
