The champion of stories and storytellers, Traverse Theatre is Scotland’s new writing theatre. Bringing the festival spirit to all audiences, all year round, for six decades. With a reputation for exploring the unexplored, Traverse Theatre invites you to join them in nurturing Scottish talent as they are propelled into their seventh decade.  
 
To mark their 60th anniversary, Traverse Theatre are recruiting a remarkable individual with a passion for challenge and change to embrace the role of Chair. Traverse Theatre is proud to be the home of the timely, powerful stories that start life on their stages; these stories have a global impact, often resulting in dozens of tours, productions, and translations. Traverse Theatre are critically acclaimed and recognised the world over for originality and artistic risk.
 
In that spirit, the Chair of Traverse Theatre should be bold-spirited, enthusiastic and care about the world around them. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of challenging the status-quo to promote inclusivity and a steady hand of governance to guide Traverse Theatre into their seventh decade. They will be a proud champion and advocate for Traverse Theatres work and they will amplify their vision and activities. Strong Chair leadership will create the context for the Executive Team to achieve their purpose.
 
The Chair will lead board meetings effectively and inclusively to enable board members to make sound decisions. They will ensure the Board meets its statutory and fiduciary responsibilities for effective governance, financial stability, reporting and accountability. They will set the tone for board communication and create a culture of collaboration and transparent decision making where Trustees can thrive and make informed, ambitious and strategic decisions. Together with Trustees and staff, they will lead succession planning and Board development including awaydays and lead a culture of continual learning and professional development.
